Innovative preparation for Olympic rowers

3D printing and 3D scanning represent cost reduction, expertise, and above all, innovation. These are important factors that not only play a decisive role in the corporate market but also in the field of competitive sports. An example of working with the DAVID/HP 3D scanner and the German RepRap X1000 3D printer at the competitive sports level is the German Rowing Eight team. To prepare specifically and individually for renowned competitions such as the Olympic Games, the gold medallists from London and silver medallists from Rio rely on the advantages of innovative 3D technologies.
Using a 3D scanner, models are created for a movable Rolls seat. This provides the athletes' seating position in the rowing boat and ensures optimal legroom to extend the rowing stroke. Thanks to the appropriate, associated CAD software, the objects could be optimised and prepared before printing began.
The filament used as printing material was PETG. This material is characterised, among other things, by its robust behaviour, stability, and the possibility of mechanical post-processing. „We are very satisfied with the 3D technology and will continue to rely on the performance and excellent service of 3Dokuteam in the future,“ says Carsten Oberhagemann, Managing Director of Deutschland-Achter GmbH.
